In what can be a shocker to Indian cricket fans, former India cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and allrounder Suresh Raina announced retirement from international cricket on Sunday.
In an Instagram post, the captain cool said: “Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout.from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired (sic)”.
Batsman Suresh Raina also announced his retirement from all international cricket. Raina also made it official in an Instagram post.
“It was nothing but lovely playing with you, @mahi7781 . With my heart full of pride, I choose to join you in this journey. Thank you India. Jai Hind! (sic)”, Raina wrote.
In 2014, Dhoni quit Test cricket after the Melbourne Test on the tour of Australia.
The Chennai Super Kings captain who is expected to feature in the upcoming IPL 2020 in the UAE, had handed over ODI and T20I captaincy to Virat Kohli in January 2017.
In his career spanning nearly 16 years, Dhoni led India through its most successful era and has the 2007 T20 WC, 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy in his cabinet.
Following Dhoni’s announcement, many cricket personalities poured in wishes for M. S. Dhoni on micro-blogging site, Twitter, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, writes, “Your contribution to Indian cricket has been immense, @msdhoni. Winning the 2011 World Cup together has been the best moment of my life. Wishing you and your family all the very best for your 2nd innings.”
Cricketer turned politician Gautam Gambhir also took to Twitter and write: “From “India A” to “The India” our journey has been full of question marks, commas, blanks & exclamations. Now as you put a full stop to your chapter, I can tell u from experience that the new phase is as exciting and there’s no limit to DRS here!!! Well played @msdhoni @BCCI”
