Chief Minister N. Biren Singh inaugurated the approach road to Tamenglong District Hospital through video conferencing from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Imphal at 5 pm today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that it is the first project in the State which is inaugurated under the Hill Area Development Program (HADP) scheme. The Chief Minister stated that as a result of his suggestions to the Centre regarding the urgent need for a topographical-need-based budget in the States like Manipur where there are both hill and valley areas, the Central Government had introduced the Hill Areas Development Fund under the Ministry of DoNER. The Chief Minister also mentioned that he had requested the DoNER Ministry for consideration of the inclusion of all hill districts of the State under the HADP.
N. Biren Singh thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ministry for DoNER for fulfilling the dreams of the people.
It may be mentioned that N. Biren Singh, after the installation of the BJP led government in the State, urged the Centre about the need for a topographical-need-based budget for inclusive development in the State. Tamenglong district (including Noney) was selected under the HADP scheme in Manipur with an outlay of Rs. 90 crores.
The 900 meters long road is constructed by DRDA Tamenglong under the Hill Area Development Program (HADP) funded by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) with a total project cost of Rs. 42 lakhs.
Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong Armstrong Pame, Chief Medical Officer of Tamenglong District Hospital, staffs of the hospital, and others were present during the inauguration.
