BJP leader and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar Thursday blamed the AAP government in Delhi for delaying the execution of four men convicted in the 2012 Delhi gang-rape case.
Addressing a press conference, Mr. Javadekar said that the hanging of the convicts is now delayed because of the Delhi government’s negligence.
“AAP is responsible for the delay in delivering justice. Why did the Delhi government not give notice to the convicts for filing mercy plea in the last 2.5 years?” Mr. Javadekar said.
The convicts in the infamous case -Vinay Sharma, Mukesh Kumar, Akshay Kumar Singh, and Pawan Gupta- are to be hanged next Wednesday at 7 am inside Tihar jail in Delhi.
After a 7 year legal fight, a trial court had signed a death warrant for the execution, after a young medical student was gang-raped, tortured and killed in a moving bus in December 2012.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government Wednesday told the high court that execution of the death row convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case will not take place in January as a mercy plea has been filed by one of the convicts.
