Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh condoled the demise of senior BJP leader and former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj. She was 67.
“Deeply saddened to hear that former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj ji is no more. I express my condolence to the bereaved family members and pray to the Almighty to grant her eternal peace. She will be missed and remembered forever,” said Mr. Biren, in a Facebook post.
PM Modi, in a series of tweets, said: “A glorious chapter in Indian politics comes to an end. India grieves the demise of a remarkable leader who devoted her life to public service and bettering lives of the poor. Sushma Swaraj ji was one of her kind, who was a source of inspiration for crores of people.”
Soon after Centre’s move to revoke the special status for Jammu and Kashmir, Ms. Swaraj had congratulated PM Modi, in a tweet.
“Narendra Modi ji – Thank you Prime Minister. Thank you very much. I was waiting to see this day in my lifetime,” she had said.
Ms. Swaraj’s mortal remains will be kept at BJP headquarters from noon till 3 pm on Wednesday for public homage and she will be laid to rest at Lodhi Road crematorium at 3 pm.
