Manipur police arrest 3 Rohingyas, including a woman, from Moreh

Three Rohingyas were arrested from the Indo-Myanmar border town of Moreh in Tengnoupal district of Manipur on Saturday.

According to media reports, the three have been identified as Mr. Md Safiullah ,34, Mr. Md Salam ,25, and Ms. Toiba Hatu alias Nargis, 20. They hailed from the Rakhine state of neighboring Myanmar.

They were arrested by a combined team of Moreh police, police commandos Moreh and CID (SB) on Saturday, Tengnoupal SP Ibomcha said. “Toiba Hatu was a victim of human trafficking while the two male associates were the traffickers.”

Ibomcha said the Rohingyas were arrested by the combined team late Saturday from Muslim Basti ward no. 5, Moreh town.

The Rohingyas were taking refuge in the house of one Maulana Ahmed Hussain, 50, a resident of Moreh ward no.2 near Tamil Sangam.

” After getting a tip-off that Rohingyas from Myanmar are staying at Muslim Basti with a trafficked girls from a foreign country to engage them in prostitution by inducement and force, the combined team rushed to the said area under my supervision and picked up two Rohingya along with a woman,” Ibomcha said.

The two men and a local, Mohd Ismail from Imphal West district’s Bengoon Maning Leikai, Mayang Imphal, have been trafficking Rohingya girls from Myanmar to different parts of the world, including India, Ibomcha added.
