Photos: Manipur’s Yaoshang festival kicks off

Yaoshang, one of the biggest and important festivals of Manipur kicks off Friday with “Yaoshang Mei Thaba”- the symbolic burning of a small straw hut. Celebrated every year in the month of March for five days, Yaoshang emphasized on the participation of different communities.

People across the state celebrate the festival, however, the epicenter of extravaganza is Imphal, where many big events would be organized. Nowadays, sports-related activities organized by local clubs and organization has been the main event during the daytime, and the traditional Thabal Chongba ( a traditional Manipuri dance) at night.
