Bollywood first woman superstar, Sridevi’s funeral will take place in Mumbai Wednesday afternoon four days after her sudden demise in Dubai.
A statement from her family said the last rites would take place from 3:30 in the afternoon at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Vile Parle.
Sridevi’s mortal remains have reached Lokhandwala’s Celebration Sports Club, according to a report in Indian Express. Fans, friends and colleagues will be able to pay their last respects to the actor here. Actor Arjun Kapoor, Marwah family and Karan Johar have also reached the venue where the condolence meeting started at 9.30 am.
After visiting the grieving Kapoor family, Bappi Lahiri said he worked in 11 Silver Jubilee films with the deceased actor, who was “the one and only lady superstar”
“I still can’t believe she is no more with us, my heart sinks thinking about it.”
He told IANS that he would like to dedicate the song “Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna” to her memory. “Never say goodbye! She will always remain an integral part of our industry. She will always remain our superstar.”
“We have provided additional security at the residence in order to avoid law and order situation,” Mumbai police spokesperson, Deepak Devraj told PTI.
Around 100 policemen were deployed near Sridevi’s Lokhandwala building on Tuesday night and around 250 cops will be deployed today at the house where her body will be kept for paying final tribute to the departed soul, said a police official.
“The same number of policemen will be part of the funeral procession,” he said.
After Dubai Public Prosecution approved its release to her family following a “comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of her death”, the mortal ramains of Sridevi arrived in Mumbai Tuesday night.
The body 54-year-old actor reached Mumbai at 9.45 pm on Tuesday in a private flight. Upon landing, Sridevi’s mortal remains were taken to her Lokhandwala residence Green Acres.
The legendary Bollywood actress died of accidental drowning in her hotel bathtub after losing consciousness in a Dubai hotel on February 24.
