Prime Minister Narendra Modi is now a “global leader”, says Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla. PM Modi had on Saturday arrived in Ramallah on a historic visit, which made him the first Indian Prime Minister to make an official visit to Palestine.
Speaking to IANS, Heptulla said: “Modi is the only leader whose words are accepted by both Palestine and Isreal. This is because of the fact that both countries repose trust in him. Modi is the only global leader whose efforts to resolve the Palestine issue are accepted by both the countries.”
Heptulla, talking about Palestine issue, said she was personally involved with the issue for about 40 years. “It is a very complex issue. People are sure that the Prime Minister will be able to resolve the issue quickly,” the Governor said.
Earlier, PM Modi was received by Palestine President Abbasin in an official ceremony at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah before starting official dialogues.
President Mahmoud Abbas said India has a role in ensuring a two-state solution as PM Modi expressed support for a sovereign Palestine.
“We rely on India’s role as an international force of great standing through its historical role in the Non-aligned Movement and its increasing, growing power in strategic and economic levels, in a way that is conducive to a just and desired peace,” said Abbas, in a joint press statement.
“We hope for peace and stability in Palestine, we believe a permanent solution is possible with dialogue. Only diplomacy and farsightedness can set free from violence and baggage of the past. We know it is not easy but we need to keep trying as a lot is at stake,” Modi said.
