Manipur Police Thursday arrested 3 Rohingya women and an alleged human trafficker while they were trying to enter Manipur from Assam, according to a report in IANS.
According to the report, the trafficker tried to enter Jiribam by saying that the women were Bengalis from Assam. Even though they claimed that they are Bengalis, police said, they could not speak Bengali.
Before the arrest was made, police said they already had intelligence report that some of the Rohingya may try to sneak into Jiribam.
In December, police had dismantled bamboo bridges that were constructed at night over JIri river at Ningthembam river bank connecting Bakhal of Cachar, Assam with Manipur.
Media reports said, police had intensified patrolling along the Manipur-Myanmar border following the dismantling of bamboo bridges.
