All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi Tuesday demanded that government bring in a law to punish anyone who calls an Indian Muslim “Pakistani”.
Speaking in Lok Sabha, Owaisi demanded a 3-year jail term for anyone who calls Indian Muslims Pakistani. He further added that that he believes that the PM Modi led NDA government will not bring in any such law.
Owaisi’s demands come days after Bareilly’s district magistrate, RV Singh, questioned the “trend” to “enter Muslim localities by force, raise anti-Pakistan slogans and then create ruckus”.
In a Facebook post on January 28, Singh had said about the violence in Kasganj, “Ajab riwaz ban gaya hai. Muslim mohallo main julus le jao aur Pakistan murdabad ke nare lagao. Kyun bhai woh Pakistani hain kya? (There is a strange new trend. Take out rallies in Muslim areas and raise slogans against Pakistan. Why, brother, are they Pakistanis?”
He had put up the Facebook posts following the communal conflict in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj, where a youth lost his life in clashes following stone-pelting by a mob on a motorcycle rally taken out to celebrate Republic Day.
Around a week ago, Owaisai also slammed the NDA governement for bringing in a bill on Triple Talaq. Law is not the solution to social evils, Owaisi had said.
“Between 2005-2015, there were more than 80,000 dowry deaths in India. Twenty-two women die daily on account of dowry, and even after the Nirbhaya incident, there was a rapid increase in number of rape cases. Law is not the answer,” he had said earlier.
Alleging that, triple talaq bill is a conspiracy against the minority community, Owaisi said,”It is a ploy to bring the women of the community on road and send the men to prison.”
