2 Assam Rifles personnel were wounded in 2 grenade explosions in Imphal on Monday. The explosions, which happened around 5:30 p.m., triggered a swift response from State police and paramilitary forces.
According to media reports, the incident took place when the personnel was reportedly collecting items used in the ongoing equestrian championship at the Polo Ground, which is situated at the heart of the Imphal.
The 2 injured security personnel have been identified as Manbahadur Limbu (38) of Sikkim and Uttamkumar Pun (52) of Mizoram. They sustained minor injuries on their shoulders and legs, and are undergoing treatment in RIMS hospital. Security forces have recovered two levers of hand grenade from the blast site.
Media reports said both the personnel belongs to 6 Assam Rifles and are stationed at Keithelmanbi. They have been engaged for the ongoing 15th Director General Assam Rifles Sentinel Cup Equestrian Championship 2018 and 9th Junior State Equestrian Championship at the Polo Ground since February 2 onwards, according to nenow.in.
The championships are being organized by 6 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) in association with Manipur Equestrian Association.
